Registration for Becoming Anti-Racist: A Life Journey

Description:
Attendees will develop an understanding of the brief history of racism within the United States of America and how it has led to and supported systemic racism. Attendees will develop a better understanding of anti-racism, and how to incorporate anti-racist behaviors in all facets of their lives. Following the presentation, Salomé will provide attendees information on how to take part in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion conversations spread throughout the year.
Learning Objectives:
1) Attendees will learn how to incorporate anti-racist behaviors using the ecological model.
2) Attendees will gain a brief foundational historical knowledge base of racism in USA.
3) Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the difference between anti-racism and not racist.
4) Attendees will develop a better understanding of the learning continuum in relation to building anti-racist skills.
Presenter:
Salomé Valencia-Bohné, MA, MSW, LSWAIC, has been involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion work since 2006 while studying and working at Pacific Lutheran University. She graduated from the University of Washington in 2019 with a Master’s in Social Work and has been working in the clinical field since then. Salomé is currently a MHP Outpatient Mental Health Program Supervisor and acts as a board of director for local social work boards, a national educational board, and an international diversity and inclusion board. Salomé also serves as a Latinx representative for a major medical center in increasing equitable access for Latinos’ in the King County area.
