Counselor/Healer/Caretaker
This ordained minister spends a major part of the week in pastoral counseling appointments in the church office, visiting in the hospital, and in home visitation.  Ministry of Care is considered to be of higher value than church management and participation in meetings.
Ministry of the Word
This ordained minister primarily focuses on preaching and teaching.  Significant time is allocated to prepare for the work of being the primary teacher of the congregation’s youth and adults.
Administrator/Manager of the Parish
This ordained minister functions much like a corporate executive.  Lines of authority are clear with all Church Staff reporting ultimately to the Lead Pastor.  Equipping church staff for leadership, and partnership with the parish board in terms of managing the parish are this pastor’s major concerns.
Prophet/Social Activist
This ordained minister’s primary focus is to mobilize church members for service in the community and calling for social change.  Teaching, preaching, and congregational forums all serve this pastor’s goal of leading congregational members to a life which brings the kingdom of God to earth now.
Visionary Leader
This ordained minister pays very close attention to the congregation’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Core Values while working with the Church Council to develop and implement a strategic plan to realize the goals and priorities of the congregation.  Ever on the lookout for new ministries, this  pastor casts the vision of what the parish can be in weekly sermons, in meetings with parish Committees and Teams, and in personal conversations with members.
Ringleader
This ordained minister organizes myriad small groups in the parish (working teams, Bible studies, action groups, youth groups, senior citizen fellowship groups, etc.)  Under this pastor’s leadership, one doesn’t join a parish so much as one joins a group.  Sunday worship is a reunion of the various groupings.
Community Personage
This ordained minister is the city’s “first citizen”—active in community organizations, offering the invocation at major city events, serving on the hospital board, etc.  The pastors are well-known, usually well liked, and serve as the public relations officer for the parish to the community.
Celebrant
This ordained minister is committed to planning and leading inspiring and well- orchestrated worship on Sunday mornings and special liturgical events throughout the Church Year.
Spiritual Guide
This ordained minister encourages the spiritual development of all church members.  Sermons often share new insights into the trials and joys of the spiritual journey.  This pastor follows a rigorous spiritual practice which serves as the reservoir for all pastoral activities.
Witness
This ordained minister considers renewal of the faithful and reaching out to the unchurched as his or her main priorities.  Sermons and Bible study classes frequently issue a call to the congregation to reach out with the Gospel to call others to faith in Jesus Christ.  Close work with the Board of Evangelism is considered to be imperative to this evangelical pastoral leader.  “Success” is defined by the number of new members brought into the congregation.
