Summary : Healthcare is at the precipice of a period of profound transformation – ushered in by the introduction of new digital platforms. New, more intelligent electronic medical record systems, messaging applications, smart devices, health apps, AI-driven clinical decision support systems, medical data sharing- and curation- platforms represent major opportunities for change.

These platforms have the potential for gains across key clinical outcome-, cost efficiency-, as well as patient experience- measures. However, these platforms also pose significant challenges. Introducing new digital platforms in day-to-day healthcare operations generally involves major alterations in information flows among doctors, patients, nurses, and other stakeholders involved in healthcare provision. It implies changes in the roles these stakeholders play in care trajectories, and brings in new (external) groups in the healthcare delivery process. Moreover, bringing together different stakeholder groups within communities around digital health platforms requires reconciling different, often conflicting agendas and interests these groups have in joining new platforms.

This workshop brings together a mix of perspectives on the development of ecosystems around digital healthcare platforms. It addresses key challenges in the design and implementation of these platforms. Specifically, we will discuss challenges involved in onboarding distinctive user groups with competing agendas and community building efforts to create vibrant user ecosystems around these platforms. Moreover, we will pay special attention to decisions about the openness of platforms towards different user groups play and how these decisions affect the ecosystems that emerge around these platforms.

Audience : Health tech companies, healthcare practitioners, researchers, policy makers, IT professionals with an interest in digital innovation in healthcare.

Goals : Present most recent evidence on global best practices ; stimulate reflection and discussion on French companies’ practices ; discuss how to improve strategies, processes, and management of NPD and innovation.
