Condensed matter is a new holy grail of physics that “emerged” from roughly half a century ago, highlighted by Anderson’s motto “More is Different”. The richness of this field allows us to consider each many-body system as a mini-universe with its own laws of physics.
If you are interested, be sure to check out a Faculty-Student Lunch with Professor Jeffrey Neaton! He is the Associate Lab Director for Energy Sciences at Berkeley Lab, a fellow of the American Physical Society, and presently a Division Associate Editor for Physical Review Letters. He is a well-achieved condensed matter theorist with a Berkeley Lab Outstanding Achievement Award, the Presidential Early Career Award, and numerous other recognitions. His work is also closely tied to experiments.
See the well-made youtube videos for a preview (In Conversation with Jeff Neaton), (Pushing Materials Out of Their Comfort Zone: A Conversation with Jeff Neaton and the Neaton Group). It’s our great pleasure to invite him to talk to us undergraduate students about his research and career path.
