The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) has organised a Special Event to celebrate the International Day of Forests, on Tuesday 21 March 2023, from 10:00 to 13:00 EST, at CR 6, UN Headquarters, New York. The theme of the 2023 celebration is “Forests and Health."
In its resolution 67/200 of 21 December 2012, the General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees outside forests. This year’s event will showcase how forests sustain all aspects of our health, from cleaning our air and water to providing us with essential food, fuel, medicines and income.
The 2023 theme is particularly relevant in these times of crises as we seek a path to recovery through integrated action. Sustainable management of forests support the livelihood and well-being of our most vulnerable populations, mitigates climate change, safeguards biodiversity and reduce the risk of future pandemics. It is also a contribution to the implementation of the UN Strategic Plan for Forests, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and supports the Decade of Action for the SDGs and the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
IFSA is delighted to welcome applications from highly motivated students to join its delegation to the event. There will further be an opportunity to participate as a youth speaker during the panel session, and interested persons can fill out an additional question on this. Please note that there will be no funding available for travel and accommodation, thus IFSA will not meet any expenses, either before or after the event, and participants will fully meet their own costs.
Deadline of the application is the 8th of March 2023, 23:59 UTC+2. If you have any questions, please direct them to unff.commission@ifsa.net
