This application form serves as an expression of interest to those wanting to create, produce or participate in the festival. Please see all the criteria areas for more details.
Calgary is creating a six-week festival (Jan 14, 2021 - Feb 28, 2021) to celebrate our community, the winter season, and our civic and national pride. With Chinook Blast, Calgary’s Midwinter Round Up, more than 55 partners from the arts, non-profit, neighbourhood, tourism, and sport communities are actively collaborating to create an inclusive event intended to bring awareness, pride of place, participation, and economic stimulus to Calgary.
Chinook Blast will showcase the best of our city and country, allowing Calgarians to come together and explore the heart of our city, and also enticing tourists to visit Calgary and enjoy more than the Alberta Rockies during the winter months.
Applications will be accepted in two phases. The first deadline is September 15, 2020 and the second deadline is October 15, 2020.
As we consider the applications we want to ensure there is a diversity of experience and to provide programming that connects to all Calgarians. We will consider and give priority to the following criteria and questions:
•
Does it have a Winter, Arts, Cultural, Sport and/or Community focus?
•
How affordable and accessible is the event to citizens and tourists?
•
Is it located within the heart of Calgary in the downtown area?
•
How engaging and experiential is it? Does it encourage social in-person programming/interaction for the public?
•
Overall, do the programming applications received provide a variety of demographic focuses and opportunities?
•
Overall, do the programming applications received provide a diversity of content that encourages uniqueness and innovation?
•
Is there a collaboration between multiple communities, creating enriching experiences?
•
Is there a focus on supporting local artists, local athletes, local organizations and businesses?
•
To ensure diversity of programming, we encourage applications for events and programs organized and led by equity seeking community members (ie. LGBTQ2S+, visible minorities, people with disabilities etc)
•
Expectation that events and programs will consider their environmental impact and footprint in the planning
•
Expectation that events and programs will follow COVID-19 guidelines as outlined by AHS, Alberta Government and City of Calgary
