Anti-Racism Standing Committee
On June 28, 2020, the congregation of the UUCS voted to uphold the Statement Regarding Racism that was presented by our Board. The statement opens with, “The Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah acknowledges the state- sanctioned violence and systemic racism that is taking the lives of Black people every day” and charges us with “now is the time to commit intentionally and systematically to do the work that is necessary to dismantle all forms of racism.”

To this end, an Anti-Racism standing committee is forming: ARC. We are looking for eight members, and many advisors/organizers of task forces. This is deep, hard, and necessary work. We will work on ourselves; we will work within our community; and we will work on the largest societal levels to effect change and to do our part in making “solidarity and justice bloom.”

I have heard from many of you already, and I appreciate your patience as we worked out how this would take shape, and your time in responding to the questions.
If you want to help, share ideas and/or resources, volunteer to lead a workshop, learn more—please contact us anytime. We welcome all help; we are all in this together; and there is much to be done. We anticipate revolving membership and leadership in the committee.    I very much look forward to working with you.
