The UW-Madison Leadership Certificate program strives to recognize leadership mobilization that creates an impact on individuals, student groups, and the community in a positive, permanent way.

The Leadership Certificate is based on four assumptions:

• The University of Wisconsin-Madison is committed to developing the leadership capabilities within its community;

• Effective leadership skills can be taught and learned at the university and in the community;

• The university environment is a strategic and appropriate setting for mastering both leadership theory and leadership skills; and

• The success of leadership is measured by direct impact on individuals, organizations, and society.        

• Attend a one hour training session in January/February on aspects of the Leadership Certificate.

• Understand the basis of the Leadership Certificate as it relates to the UW-Madison Leadership Framework www.leadership.wisc.edu.

• Review and provide feedback for student reflection essays each semester.

• Commit to serving as a member of the Leadership Certificate review committee for at least one academic year.

• Possibly attend and participate in student “Leadership for Change Capstone” presentations each semester.

• Possibly attend the end of semester Leadership Certificate Ceremony in December and May.

•Engage in optional training sessions each Winter for ongoing professional development.

• Estimated time commitment may vary and will depend on the number of applications per semester.
