Join the Teacher Leadership Institute for Sustainability: "Every Classroom a Green Classroom"
TK-12 Teachers are invited to apply to be part of the 2023-24 Cohort by submitting this form. 

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS SEPTEMBER 15, 2023. Space is limited to ensure participation across districts and grade bands.  

The goal of this teacher leadership institute is to increase TK-12 teacher capacity for integrating environmental sustainability with classroom curriculum in any content area and leading students in sustainability efforts at school and in their communities.

To accomplish this goal, participants will:

  • Engage as learners in deepening understanding of environmental literacy and sustainability frameworks

  • Identify environmental issues relevant to students and potential connections to classroom curriculum

  • Connect with local environmental education partners for support of outdoor learning and stewardship action projects

  • Engage students in taking action on an environmental issue relevant to their classroom community as part of the pilot “Every Classroom a Green Classroom” recognition program

  • Share their green classroom profile at the final showcase in April

  • Explore opportunities for student action projects to contribute to green school certification and other existing district greening efforts

DATES AND TIMES: 

NOTE: The program includes synchronous virtual sessions, in-person sessions, and independent work. 

  • 2 session in-person kick-off: 10/1/23 & 10/14/23 9:00am - 2:00pm (please note weekend dates)

  • 3 Virtual Afterschool Sessions: Tuesdays 10/17/23, 11/7/23, & 12/5/23, 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm (on zoom)

  • 1 collaborative planning session: 1/20/24 9:00am - 12pm (please note weekend date)

  • March 11 STEAM Expo (optional opportunity to share project progress) 

  • In-person Green Classroom "Sharecase" & Celebration: Saturday 4/20/24 9:00am-2:00pm

Stipend: Classroom teacher participants will receive up to $1,200 for participation based on attendance at in-person and virtual sessions and submission of green classroom profiles and final survey.  Stipends will be paid by districts at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
