We're sorry; 2019 musical camp registration is closed. The camp is full! You are invited to attend the performance on Friday, July 19, 7 p.m. in St. Paul's Sanctuary at 250 E College Avenue!
Thank you for your interest in St. Paul's Summer Musical Camp! The camp runs July 15-19, Monday-Friday morning, 8:45-11:45 a.m. In one week, the children will learn the music and make the props and costumes for the exciting musical, ARE WE THERE YET?, which tells about Moses and the Israelites and their escape from Egypt in a fun way. On Friday evening (7 p.m.), the children will present the musical to the community, accompanied by instrumental ensemble and celebrated with an ice cream social.
No prior experience is required, but children should have a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn. Daily attendance is required for a successful Friday performance. If your younger child is not yet ready to focus in this setting, please consider waiting a year to enroll them.
Each day will move through singing, simple movements, snack, and crafts to prepare the costumes, set, and publicity. The camp aims to promote healthy singing, creativity, regard for others, and an understanding of God's love for us. All activities take place in the church buildings, and children will be divided into two age groups.
Children with dance experience are invited to participate in the dance ensemble.
Auditions for speaking roles will be held Sunday, July 7, at 12 p.m., or by appointment (for children entering grades 4-7).
All children should become familiar with the musical by listening to the practice recording before the camp. CDs will be available for pick-up in June.
We ask a small donation of $15 per family to offset camp costs. (Scholarships available.) Please mail or hand-deliver donation in an envelope marked with your child's name(s) and "Summer Musical Camp" to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 250 E College Ave, State College, PA 16801. The second floor church office is accessible via the Calder Way entrance. Make out checks to St. Paul's UMC.
Registration is limited, so please register soon! The camp is open to children entering grades 1-7 in fall 2019. Since performance of the musical requires the leadership of older children, registration may close sooner for younger children. Younger children who register after May 20 will be put on a waiting list. For more information, contact Joanna Carlson at
joannacarlson@gmail.com or 410-979-7403.
Finally, this camp is run completely by volunteers. Please consider volunteering to help or donate snacks! See registration form below for details.
