In this alpha build of The Devil's Cookbook, we've included the core mechanics of ingredients, picking up ingredients, placing spells, cooking ingredients and serving patrons. There is a tutorial level, and a playable level consisting of 15 patrons.
Please keep in mind that the assets you see in game are not final - this includes UI, AI, art, etc. Sound is also not currently implemented.
The most critical aspects to test are the following:
- Spawning of ingredients via the Soul Imbuer (flower)
- Placing of spells, including Grab, Wall and Center Pull
- Picking up ingredients (done by using the Grab Spell)
- Placing ingredients into the oven to cook them
- Giving the completed dish to the patrons
- Functionality of the health bar (bottom left), and whether it updates correctly upon taking damage
Right now, the ingredients that you can spawn in are:
- Fruit & Vegetable - a spider-like ingredient that runs around the level or away from the player.
- Flour & Sugar - a bat-like ingredient that flies towards the player shooting flour or sugar towards them, causing the player to slow down.
- Meat - a spider-like ingredient that charges the player and stuns them on contact. This functionality is not currently implemented, and the ingredient uses the same AI as the fruit/veg.
The spells that are in this build are:
- Grab Spell - this spell will pick up ingredients that run over it, putting them into your inventory.
- Wall Spell - this spell allows you to place up to 4 connected walls in the level for a specific amount of time.
- Centre Pull - this spell will pull all ingredients around the player to the centre.
A basic rundown of the controls are as follows:
- WASD to move, SHIFT to dash.
- SPACE to interact.
- Spells are selected via their respective hotkeys, Q, E and R.
- Spells are activated via LEFT CLICK once selected.
