Masterclass Registration - "Conducting qualitative interviews and group discussions about difficult topics and combining these with quantitative approaches"

Location: BUW building, Dobra Street 56/66 (Kampus Powiśle) Warsaw, room 2.90, Seminar Room of the Centre of Excellence in Social Sciences. The Seminar Room is located on the 2nd floor which can be accessed by an elevator near the posters' stand from the ground floor.

Topic: Conducting qualitative interviews and group discussions about difficult topics and combining these with quantitative approaches

Participation requirement: The workshop will be held in English. Participants are expected to have at least an advanced level of English.
Due to the high level of interest in the seminar, participants in the workshops will need to confirm their attendance in advance of the event in order to be able to attend the workshop.

Students willing to participate should send an abstract (approximately 1500 characters) about their project and explain how they plan to employ interviews or group discussions in their research. The space for the abstract is provided in the form below.

Speaker's workshop description:  In this workshop we will discuss all steps related to face-to-face qualitative data collection methods (interviews and group discussions) in online and offline settings.

In the first part of the workshop, we will overview:
- The pros and cons of interviews and group discussions,
- The pros and cons of online vs. offline data collection,
- The integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches in complex studies.

In the second part of the workshop, we will work with students’ existing projects and will:
- Put together interview guides that can work for difficult and inconvenient topics,
- Discuss research ethics and the best ways to recruit participants,
- Practice effective techniques for keeping respondents on track,
- Prepare for difficult situations.
