Paula Alonso is an associate professor of history and international affairs at The George Washington University, where she is an historian of politics in Latin America with a focus on Argentina. Her research addresses institutions, politics, the press, and cultural history. Project title: "The Politics of Democracy. Argentina and the Atlantic World, 1860-1946"

Fernando Alvarado is a researcher and member of the Social Studies and Development Program, Faculty of Economic and Administrative Science, at Pontificia Universidad Cátolica de Valparaíso, among other positions. His research addresses how foreign policy is influenced by internal and external variables, regional integration processes in Latin America, and possible transformations and reforms in post-pandemic Chile. Project title: "The Post-Pandemic ‘New Normal’ in Chile and Beyond"

Candelaria Garay is the Ford Foundation Associate Professor of Democracy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She studies social policy, collective action and party politics, and environmental politics with a regional focus on Latin America. Project title: "Labor Coalitions in Unequal Democracies"

Sara Niedzwiecki is an assistant professor of politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she specializes in comparative social policy, subnational politics, and mixed-methods research. Project title: "Immigrants’ Access to Social Protection in Latin America"

Francisco R. Rodríguez is the director and founder of Oil for Venezuela, a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide depoliticized, transparent, and sustainable solutions to the country’s humanitarian crisis. Project title: "The Unraveling of Venezuela’s Populist Experiment: 2013-2019"

Susan Shepler is an anthropologist and an associate professor in the School of International Service at American University with extensive experience working in conflict-affected West Africa. Project title: "'Power you Can Trust': Fractal Sovereignty in Sierra Leone"

David Smilde is the Charles A. and Leo M. Favrot Professor of Human Relations at Tulane University and a senior fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America, where he curates the blog Venezuelan Politics and Human Rights. Project title: "Venezuela's Transition to Illiberalism, Vol. 1: Hugo Chávez and 21st Century Socialism"

Alejandro Castrillón is a PhD candidate in Political Theory and International Relations. His research interests include Latin American political thought, ancient political philosophy, and modern republicanism. Dissertation title: "Simón Bolívar and the Reconfiguration of Modern Republicanism"

Bernardo Pulido Marquez is a Doctor of Juridical Science candidate at the Law School. His research focuses on inadmissible restrictions on political rights, including the right to run for elections, reviewing the effects of administrative disqualifications and judicial decisions that ban candidates from running for office. Dissertation title: "When Someone Decides Before the Voter: Inadmissible Restrictions to the Right to Stand for Election"

Esteban Salas is a PhD candidate in African history at the University of Notre Dame. His current work focuses on themes of production, trade, labor, slavery, race, and state building in Angola. Dissertation title: "The Birth of the Slave Plantation System in Benguela, 1760-1860"
