Basic Camp Information:
The Sharon Robotics Teams will be hosting a Beginner Robotics Camp on July 8th – 12th, 2024. Participants will learn how to program a LEGO Spike Prime Robot using a scratch based programming language and complete LEGO challenges on a themed mission field! This camp will take place 4 days at Case Avenue Elementary School in Sharon and 1 day at the eCenter at Linden Pointe in Hermitage. This camp is a beginner camp and no prior robotics/programming experience is needed to attend. All robots and materials will be provided for the week.
Age:Students must currently be in 3rd through 6th grade to participate. Applicants can be from any school district.

Camp on M, T, TH, and F will be located in the robotics lab at Case Elementary School, 36 Case Avenue, Sharon. Participants are expected to arrive on-time and enter the exterior doors at the playground entrance off of Case Avenue. These doors will be used for students to enter and dismiss from camp.
Camp on Wednesday of the week will be held at the eCenter at Linden Pointe, 3580 Innovation Way, Hermitage. This is a joint collaboration between the eCenter and Sharon Robotics will allow youth to experience a unique experience with technology and innovation.
Students must have their own transportation to and from the camp on a daily basis at both locations.
Date/Time:Camp will run from July 8th – 12th from 9:30 AM-2PM. On Friday, July 12th parents/guardians will be invited to learn about robotics from 1:30-2:00 PM with their child during a hands-on session at the camp. Reminders will be sent home about the parent session during the first/second day of camp.
Cost:Tuition fee is $130 to attend the camp. Tuition is due within 30 days of being accepted into the camp or July 1st, whichever comes first. If payment is not received within the timeline, acceptance to the camp will be revoked. Cash or check is acceptable. Checks are to be made payable to the “Sharon Robotics Boosters”. A camp t-shirt will be provided as part of the tuition cost.
Lunch:Students are able to pack a lunch or may receive a free lunch from the summer lunch program. Lunch will be located in the school cafeteria at Case Avenue and the eCenter from 12:00-12:30.
Camp Curriculum: Participants will have a week-long opportunity to program a Spike Prime Robot using a scratch based programming language. Camp will focus on beginner robot behaviors and no prior knowledge is needed to attend. Lessons to program a robot to move forward, turn, and use sensors (distance, color, touch) will be just a few highlights of the week! Students will also work with partners to solve missions on a LEGO themed challenge field. All robots and materials will be provided for the week.
Instructor: The camp will be taught by Mr. Tomko, a sixth-grade teacher and robotics coach, and members from the Sharon Robotics Teams. Members from the robotics teams will include students from 7th-12th grades who have experience/ knowledge in programming/robotics.
Deadline to Apply: Applications will be accepted until July 1st, 2024. However, please be aware, this camp fills quickly. Students will be accepted to the camp on a first come, first serve basis – as there are 24 seats available. Each student will be placed on the camp roster upon submission of a completed application. If the camp fills to capacity, a wait list will be used for interested participants. Students who submit an application will be notified of acceptance status or wait list status within 24 hours of application being received.
