Mama wants to know...
As many of you may have heard, the Mietendeckel (law to cap the rent in Berlin) has been overturned by Germany's highest court. Everyone in Berlin whose rent was reduced last year may have to pay the difference back to their landlord. We would like to know who in the Queer community is affected and may need help dealing with this sudden change.
Email *
Are you affected by the overturning of the Mietendeckel (i.e. have you been paying less rent for the last 6 months)? *
Did you save the extra money in case you need to pay it back? *
If your landlord requests the money back, will this cause financial problems for you? *
If you might need help, what options do you have for getting help? *
Are you already a member of a Renters Union (Mieterverein or Mieterbund)? *
A Renters Union can provide help, including lawyers, when you have problems with your landlord. If you are not a member, would you be interested in joining one? (costs are between 60 EUR and 90 EUR per YEAR) *
Has your landlord already contacted you about paying this money back? *
If you answered YES to the above question, what payment options did they offer? *
Is there anything else we need to know? e.g. not the Hauptmieter, not registered at your address, subletting, visa issues, etc.
