I would like to be more involved with my son’s academics being new to the school and contribute  my skills and 20 years experience in teaching  as medical educator in three different continents and at different levels ( medical , nursing, Care assistants , IGCSE and A-level Biology and health education).

I would be grateful for this opportunity. Regards!
Kevin Abbott
My main reason is that I want to give something back to the school which gives so much to help and support my son in his education.

I believe I have the skills to make a positive contribution to the Governing Body and the school.  In my working life, I am Finance Director of Preston North End Football Club, a role I have held for the last 17 years.  I am also chair of Trustees of the Preston North End Community and Education Trust which is a registered charity delivering programmes to help the local community. I am also a Trustee of Rainbow Hub, a charity for children with disabilities based in Mawdesley.

I feel that the skills I have gained in these organisations, which all serve the local community in different ways, would be very relevant to the role of school governor.  I have also previously acted as a school governor, having served as parent governor at my son's previous primary school.

I would like to offer my support and experience to help further the education of the students at Garstang Community Academy. As a lifelong local resident with a daughter at the school, I understand the value GCA offers our community's children through the provision of a local, caring, and stimulating secondary school. I believe I can bring to the role my experience of senior leadership in the public sector, always conscious of the principles of public life, and of governance in both public and private settings, including as a previous board member of Lancashire Sport Partnership and the North West Regional Pensions Governance Board. I have also served terms as a member of a national executive committee.

I have some previous experience as a parent governor which taught me the value of intrusive but supportive questioning, seeking to ensure that what was presented was supported by data and pupil experience. I am prepared to ask challenging questions and ensure I commit the time I know is required to be an effective member of the governing body, listening to feedback and always appreciating that everyone has differing needs and perspectives; clear open communication is key. If I am offered a place as a parent governor through your support, I look forward to working hard on behalf of all the students, parents and staff at Garstang Community Academy. Thank you.
