Snow Squad 2023
Thank you to all our whànau who have volunteered their time to drive our tamariki up the maunga and spend  every Wednesday either skiing or boarding with them.  The children of drivers (13 in total) are guaranteed a spot in our Snow Squad.  This year we have enough spaces for a further 24 (this may increase once we receive confirmation from some potential drivers) children to join us every Wednesday up the maunga.  If we have more children interested than spaces available, a ballot will be held for the remaining 24 spaces.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE COMMITING YOUR CHILD TO SNOW SQUAD 2023

SNOW SQUAD 2023 – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Snow squad is an optional extra-curricular sporting opportunity that we are excited to offer our tamariki.
  • Snow Squad is open to ALL our àkonga regardless of their age.
  • There is NO age restriction for children wanting to ski but children who wish to snowboard must be 8 years or older. If a decision to ski or board it made, please note that you will be unable to change this throughout the Term.
  • We will be going most weeks in Term 3 (possible 10 weeks), unless the maunga has been closed for the day.
  • You must purchase a season pass for your child.  This needs to be purchased through RAL, using the school name, during a specific period of time to be confirmed by RAL.  As a kura rohe (local school) our tamariki are offered the heavily discounted price of $99.00 + $5 card fee which is not offered publicly.  DO NOT purchase a pass-through another channel as it will cost you $100 more. 

5-6 YEAR OLDS  – FIRST TIMERS ONLY

If your child is new to snow squad they MUST have a parent/caregiver accompany them for the first session ONLY. (These parents/caregivers DO NOT need to ski or snowboard, they just need to be in the Happy Valley beginner area to assist with their child, no pre-schoolers are able to attend).  As your child will be assigned a driver for the season, you will need to make your own way up the mountain on our first trip.  There might be room in cars to take you, so please contact Mrs Pyman first before making arrangements.  

PICK UP AND DROP OFF TIMES ON WEDNESDAYS

Pick up time for tamariki is between 6.40am - 6.55am (from homes), and returned to Turangi (homes or arranged drop off point) approx. 3.30pm. 

CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS

  • Ski jacket – Must be waterproof and windproof
  • Ski pants - Must be waterproof and windproof
  • Thermal underlayers (top and bottoms)
  • Warm jumper (fleece or woollen)
  • Ski googles
  • Ski gloves + a spare pair (when gloves get wet)
  • Knee length warm socks (x2)
BREAKDOWN OF PRICING PER CHILD PER WEEK
  • Must purchase a season pass from RAL - $99.00 + $5.00 (card fee).  This is at a reduced rate for our Kura therefore have been asked to respectfully not share this with other schools.
  • Weekly Package:  $25.00 per studentn per visit.  This includes a 1.5-hour group lesson, rental equipment of skis/boards, boots and helmets.  (If you have your own gear, the price of $25.00 is still applicable to each child and cannot be changed due to the nature of the packages offered by RAL).
  •  Koha of $5.00 each week towards petrol - given to your child’s driver.
TOTAL COST, PER CHILD, FOR THE TERM (Should we go every week, this will be weather permitting)
  • Total weekly amount of $25.00 x 10 weeks a year = $250.00 for the term
  • + season pass ($99.00 + $5.00), = $104.00
  • + petrol koha $5.00 x 10 = $50.00
  • Possible Total Cost for the term, if we went each week (10 weeks for the term), including season passes, weekly lesson, gear hireage & petrol koha
  • = $404.00 per child.
