Activate Application Form for Film Production Companies
BE Collective is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build an increasingly diverse and equitable
screen industries sector through social action projects and influencing social discourses. 

ACTIVATE

The Activate Program aims to increase opportunities for sustained work in the film industry for BIPOC and equity-seeking filmmakers in Edmonton by subsidizing the wage of a BIPOC crew member hired for $200 per day, for up to 10 days between March 2024 and October 2024.

First Intake window closing: Tuesday March 5th 

Who can apply for the Activate program:

  • Companies whose primary activity involves development, production and post production in the screen sector (inter alia, film, television, VF, animation, motion graphics, video, post production)

  • Applicants MUST have an upcoming project. 

  • Applicants must have a clear vacant role on a project/production.

  • Applicants must have either, 

    a) a potential candidate from a BIPOC or Equity-seeking community in mind to fill a role on the project, or

    b)  a job description for the position (BE Collective can assist with introductions to potential candidates for the role in question)

  • Your candidate must be from Edmonton or the Greater Edmonton Region.

  • Applicants may hire a candidate for a shadow position, as long as a simple accompaniment/learning plan is provided.

How will it work:

  • Applicants submit an application package

  • jury will adjudicate the packages on a rolling basis and make selections at the beginning of each month from February to October 2024

  • Successful applicants will receive:

    • A wage subsidy for their hire of $200 per day, for up to 10 days.

    • There is no requirement for you to supplement/match this funding, however, this will add weight to your application.

Upon completion of the production, you and your hire must provide the following deliverables to BE Collective:

  • A mandatory survey completed by Applicant

  • A mandatory survey completed by your hire

  • Participate in an interview for BE Collective's best practices video

  • Provide BTS stills (and, if practicable, video clips) of your hire working on your project

3. I understand that BE Collective operates under the regulations outlined in the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta), which may be subject to amendments over time.

4. I grant BE Collective the authority to discuss and disclose any information or documentation related to the Application, the Application process, and the Project, as necessary for evaluation purposes. This authorization extends to the Board of BE Collective, its agents, advisors, independent analysts contracted by BE Collective, legal counsel, and auditors.

5. I authorize BE Collective to conduct thorough investigations into all statements contained within the Application, without prior notice of such investigations.

6. I acknowledge BE Collective's commitment to safeguarding the confidential and private data of each applicant. While BE Collective employs industry-standard data security measures, I understand that unauthorized access by third parties cannot be entirely ruled out. I release and indemnify BE Collective from any claims, demands, losses, costs, charges, actions, or other proceedings resulting from unauthorized access to the Applicant's information, except in cases of BE Collective's negligence or willful misconduct.

7. I acknowledge and agree that BE Collective reserves the right to amend or impose additional terms and conditions as it deems necessary in its approval for Funding. Such terms and conditions may also be imposed on any consent granted pursuant to this application.

8. I recognize BE Collective's full discretion in administering its programs and application guidelines to ensure that funded projects align with BE Collective's mandate. I acknowledge that in matters of interpreting BE Collective’s Guidelines and reviewing this Application, the objectives of BE Collective and its interpretation shall take precedence.

9. In the event of a dispute concerning the Application or its interpretation, both parties will seek resolution through good faith negotiation. Senior representatives may be appointed by each party to facilitate negotiation before considering litigation.

10. These terms and conditions will be appended and integrated into any additional or supplemental grant or contribution agreement executed between the Applicant and BE Collective, except for any specific deviations or exclusions outlined therein.
