Thank you for your interest in joining the Northern Youth Leadership (NYL) Steering Committee. NYL runs remote wilderness programming for youth aged 11 - 17 to develop leadership skills, life skills, emotional resiliency, and to challenge self-imposed limitations. NYL programming rotates throughout the territory and involves youth from across the territories and Inuit Nunangat with a focus on youth in the NWT.
The NYL Steering Committee is responsible for overall leadership of Northern Youth Leadership, including oversight of the Project Director. They also assist with the guidance, development, and delivery of programming. The Steering Committee meets on average 7 times a year (meetings of 1-2 hours in duration) and one 1-2 day strategic planning workshop typically held in the winter. Additional opportunities for members include joining sub-committees focusing on specific issues and tasks, and being on-call during camp programming as a member of the Incident Command system.
We appreciate you taking the time to complete this application. It will be reviewed at the next Steering Committee meeting, and the Chair of the committee will contact you regarding your potential involvement. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Joanna, NYL Project Director at
