The government wants to implement a new educational law, which will transfer the authority to determine the language of instruction from a democratically elected school governing body (SGB) to an official in the provincial department.

The Bill is not up to date. It was drafted in 2017. Before Covid. Before Zoom. Before digital technology changed education for good: It is a Bill that is behind the times even before it has been enacted.

What we need is a law that takes the new normal of education into consideration. A law that puts education in the hands of the community, regardless of whether it is a public school, an independent school, home-school or micro-school. We want to teach children, the government wants to indoctrinate them.
