ISD Student Equity Council
Hello there! For general council applications, we review during application seasons which occurs each term (seasonally). In order to reach our target groups, we are opening up year round applications to ensure that anyone who needs an application accommodation can receive it and apply when they feel comfortable.

The year round applications are currently open to the following demographics: low-income students, physically displaced students, indigenous students, recent/undocumented immigrants, Latinx students, first-generation students, religious minorities, Black students, LGBTQ+, LRC, and IEP students.

Representation and your voices, experiences, and what you endured in education is essential for student advocacy. Please consider joining to use your passion and advocate for change to ensure future students have students to advocate on behalf of their identities.

Below is more information about the Council:
--
The Issaquah School District Student Equity Council is a newly-formed advisory board in which students advocate for equity-related issues. Council members come from diverse backgrounds and schools, which is essential to ensure that every student concern throughout the district is voiced. The occasion for this need to amplify students and enact modern day change comes from our initiative, personal experiences, and desire to address issues that are commonly dismissed in society. We advocate for modern educational policies that address our diverse social backgrounds, to complete projects that assist students overcome equity barriers, and discuss with administrators and adult leaders as the voice of the student body.

For this, we are looking to recruit more members to expand our council efforts, as advocacy carries strength in numbers. Weekly commitments take roughly 3-4 hours. Commitments usually entail affinity group meetings, project group meetings, and outside work time. Meetings are currently taking place online via Zoom.

We are looking for members who are passionate about creating equity change in our district and dedicated to contributing time and effort in these projects. To learn more about us: visit our Instagram (instagram.com/isd.equity), skim over our monthly reports (http://bit.ly/ISDEquityMay), or visit our website (https://isdequity.wixsite.com/website).

If you'd like to learn more before applying, please contact the council email at isd.equity@gmail.com.

Applications will be accepted year round. There is no set date for when accepted members get onboarded, but the council will email you with a decision within a week after you apply.

If you are not apart of our target demographic you can apply at our general application, these applications are not currently open. Our next cycle applications open in Late November. (tinyurl.com/isdequityapp/)
