Marine Debris Location Reporting

This form will be used by the Spirit of the West Adventures Marine Debris removal team to identify debris in need of collection in the Discovery Islands region.

PLEASE fill out a SEPARATE form for EACH LOCATION you are reporting.

This project will be collect the following materials for recycling;
- Oyster Baskets and Crab Pots
- Foam Floats
- Hard Plastic Buoys
- Hard Plastic Fragments (#1, 2, 4 & 5, with a focus on larger items, to collect before it becomes small stuff!)
- Netting
- Rope
- Styrofoam (white only, must be clean to be recycled)
- Tires (with & without styrofoam)
- Beverage Bottles
- Metal

Everything else will be considered garbage and will still be removed from our beaches, just unfortunately cannot be recycled.

We are not able to collect derelict vessels or hazardous materials (but please still report and we will pass this info onto the appropriate authority).

This project will be focusing our efforts on the following area;
- Quadra Island
- Read Island
- Maurelle Island
- Cortes Island
- Marina Island
- The Penn & Rendezvous Islands
- The Breton Islands & some of the smaller islands between these other islands.

We do hope to be able to clean more areas and for the longer durations in the future. This particular project runs end of September to end of October 2021, but we will continue to track debris for future efforts.

There is also another group from Campbell River (CRATO) working in the region and we will be sure to share info with them as appropriate.
