Mālama 'Āina Field School Summer 2022 Application
Aloha kākou! We are pleased to offer the 10th annual Mālama 'Āina Field School! This application is for students currently in the 7th through 9th grade who would like to apply to the program. Preference is given to students currently residing within the Wai'anae moku (region).

This summer program will be held over the course of 5 weeks from June 13 to July 15, 2022 and will be run IN-PERSON, with both content-driven lessons/projects and huaka'i (field trips) to outdoor sites throughout the week. Huaka'i will include service work, problem-based learning, and fun focusing on caring for the 'āina that takes care of us. Transportation as well as lunch on huaka'i dates will be provided.  

- Program Dates: June 13 - July 15, 2022 (Monday - Friday)
- Time: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm daily
- Overnighter at Camp Pālehua: June 21-22
- Hō'ike: July 15; time TBD (Mandatory for all students, in-person)
- Daily meeting location:  Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center at Māʻili

**Students who are already enrolled/registered to attend Kamaile Academy or Wai'anae High School next school year may receive a high school Elective Science credit upon successful completion of course requirements. Students who are already enrolled/registered to attend Nānākuli High & Intermediate School (NHIS) may receive a high school Directed Studies in Natural Resources Elective credit upon successful completion of course requirements. Students going to other schools may inquire on their own about the possibility of receiving credit at their schools.**

**Students may also receive up to $100 stipend award upon successful completion of course requirements.**

If you are accepted into this program, there will be a $50 program fee due, with the possibility of a partial scholarship based on financial need. There will be a mandatory parent-student orientation meeting before the start of the program to overview the program schedule, participant expectations, and answer any questions you might have. We kindly ask that you be flexible, as everything is subject to change given the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our main priority is the health and safety of our staff, students, and communities.

Please answer ALL sections/questions as best you can. The application deadline is May 27, 2022 (or until the program is filled). We will accept applications as they come in so it's best to apply early. The first 25 applicants will receive a $10 gift certificate for Mākeke Wai'anae Farmers Market!
