Application: Mexican Migration Field Research Program (MMFRP) - 2024-2025
The MMFRP is a unique, year-long program for undergraduate and graduate students who want an in-depth, community-based research practicum focused on immigrants and social justice (more info at https://mmfrp.org). All students must commit to 16 units in 2024-2025. This year, we're doing a community-based study of labor rights and climate justice among Latinx communities in California’s Imperial Valley, in partnership with Comite Cívico del Valle and Imperial Valley Equity and Justice Coalition. All travel costs (driving, lodging, food) are covered by the program.

1. Fall: Urban Studies and Planning 162 (Migration and the City) OR Sociology 125, 127, 133, or 163 (4 units).
NOTE: If you have already taken one of these courses, you may request exemption from the fall requirement
2. Winter: Urban Studies and Planning 188/Sociology 188: Mexican Migration Field Research Practicum (8 units, including 3-4 two-day, overnight field trips to Imperial County, CA, most likely leaving Friday 9am and returning Saturday )
3. Spring: Urban Studies and Planning 188B: Research Reporting (4 units)

DEADLINE: Admissions are rolling until Week 1 of fall quarter 2024. First and second year students will be placed on a waitlist and admitted Week 1 depending on space.
