Parent Survey #2- Northwestern Local Schools
In preparation of the start of the 2020-2021 school-year, we want to educate parents and students on the educational options available this school year.  Please review the information below and complete the survey based on your plans for each of your children for the school-year.  This will help us begin to make plans, best meet the needs of our students/families, and answer questions.  We ask that you remember that our options and plans are fluid documents, meaning that they are changing and evolving as we learn more and as new information is given to us.  Please complete one survey per student.

Educational Options for the 2020-2021 School-Year
Due to health and safety concerns, the Northwestern Local School District is considering another Educational Option (Option D), as explained directly below.  The other options, presented in the first survey, are listed below as they were described in the last survey.

Educational Option D- Remote Learning with Northwestern Local Schools.  All students K-12 who attend Northwestern Local Schools would begin the school-year completing online learning.  The instruction would be provided by Northwestern Teachers, utilizing an online management system, such as Google Classroom to deliver resources, lessons, assignments, and materials.  This option would allow teachers to focus solely on remote learning and instruction, creating a more effective option for students and parents, which could include video lessons and meetings conducted through Zoom or Google Meet.  This plan would begin with the first day of school (August 31) and would run through at least October 2, as continuous assessments are conducted to determine an appropriate return to school date.  Depending on the timing of our return, we would shift to a four-day week in some fashion, as described in the last survey (four days for all students or 2 and 2, where only half of the students attend school for 2 days at a time) with the 5th day remaining online.

PREVIOUS EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS DESCRIBED-

Educational Option A- Northwestern Traditional In-School Instruction.  Students will attend Northwestern Local Schools for instruction, which is provided by Northwestern Local Schools Teachers and Staff.  Students will attend school in accordance to the school calendar.  Please review the District Re-Start plan for specific information regarding health and safety protocols, face coverings, and transportation information.  Should schools be closed, all students will be transitioned to teacher-directed online learning.   With this option, we are looking at three potential in-school possibilities: 5 days per week, a 4 day school week (M-Th), and a 50% student return, split between the 4 days (one group of students would attend Monday and Wednesday and the other 50% of students would attend Tuesday and Thursday).  For this last option, students would complete work online for the other three days.

Educational Option B- Northwestern Online Platform.  Students will take online courses through Northwestern Local Schools.  This platform will allow students to continue to be enrolled in Northwestern Local Schools, which allows for their participation in school programs, sports, and activities.  This program will be designed as a self-directed learning platform, with more independent learning requirements.

Educational Option C- "Other"- such as Online Schooling provided by another Online School or Homeschooling.  Families choosing this option will need to withdraw from Northwestern Local Schools and either enroll into the new online school provider or contact the Superintendent (for homeschooling).  Depending on the situation, students taking these options could be able to continue to participate in sports and activities, pending that certain criteria (i.e.: athletic academic eligibility) are met and based on the type of educational option chosen.  Please note that students will need to log in and begin taking online classes with the new online school before they will be officially withdrawn from Northwestern Local Schools.

If the district moves to Option D (Remote Learning for all), I plan to: *
Our ultimate goal is to return to a 5 day school week when we can safely do so.  When we are able to transition from Educational Option D (remote learning) to a version of Educational Option A (direct instruction), based on the current situation in Ohio, how would you prefer to see us return to school initially at that time.   *
With the proposed plan of going to Educational Option D (remote learning), my child would have the following needs (check all that apply):     *
