WQED Film Academy is a youth education program in digital media arts and filmmaking. The Academy is open to rising 9th graders through recent 12th grade graduates (graduated 2023).
The Summer 2023 virtual program runs from June 26th through August 10th 2023, for four days each week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM, on Zoom*. Students will be given an additional 3-5 hours of independent project time per week to complete on their own time. WQED Film Academy will not be in session on Tuesday, July 4th, due to the holiday.
The cost of the program is $2,500 per student. This cost includes a "film at home" kit (valued at $600) that students will get to keep! Financial assistance is available due to the generous support from foundations and the Pittsburgh community. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration to secure a spot.
Financial assistance recipients are NOT required to provide a deposit, but confirmation via email or phone is necessary to claim the spot. The deposit will go towards the remaining balance that is due at the start of the session. Payment plans are available.
If applying for full scholarships, this application is due Sunday, June 11th, 2023.
WQED Film Academy uses a rolling admissions process and will notify all applicants of their application status within 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester. At that time, applicants will also be notified of financial assistance awarded, if applicable. Limited spaces are available in each session.
