The uncertainty and persistence of Covid-19 has forced us to adapt to a wide array of challenges. As nonprofit leaders, we must learn to lead by communicating messages of hope instead of fear and of agency instead of passivity in such difficult circumstances. Therefore, this is the appropriate time to learn the practice of Public Narrative – the art of telling stories to inspire people to achieve a collective goal.
In this Public Narrative training, participants will learn how to develop three stories – Story of Self, Us, and Now to motivate people to accept responsibility to work toward a common purpose. This leadership framework was developed by Prof. Marshall Ganz at the Harvard Kennedy School and has been adopted by leaders across the world. The pedagogical approach used in this three-part workshop is simple but powerful: explain, model, practice, debrief then repeat. Practice and iteration are key for the mastery of this art: Your story will only get better as you practice it on the listeners you are trying to motivate.
LeaderBridge provides professional development opportunities for leaders of color and from diverse backgrounds who work at locally-based, locally-serving nonprofits in the Greater Washington region. This Public Narrative Course is sponsored by LeaderBridge and facilitated by the Inspire Leadership School.
This course is open to Black, Indigenous, Latinx or Hispanic, or Asian
