Commiting to the Students Climate Framework
As a HEI, you have a central role in tackling the climate emergency and ecological crisis. You contribute through your teaching and research, but you also need to reduce the impact of your operations. By signing this Student Climate Framework, you undertake to do the following within a year of signing the Student Climate Framework:

- You will set up net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets for scopes 1, 2 and 3 in line with equity by 2030 in developed nations and 2040 in developing nations.
- You will publicly declare a climate emergency and communicate your climate work to inspire and spread knowledge about how to limit global temperature rise to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius above industrial levels.
- You will allocate resources and form a sustainability or climate task force (e.g. committee or office) who can lead the institution in achieving these goals. The committee should actively involve students, academics, and other staff.
- You will allocate resources and start measuring your climate impact, including emissions reduction impact, and start producing annual reports on your climate impact.
- You will develop an action plan with interim targets and key areas (listed in our framework guide) in collaboration with student representatives and conduct regular reviews and follow-ups. Your action plan will include an intersectional and holistic approach to education, research, and external engagement, to help society as a whole to achieve the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degrees target.
