Since the 1960s, society has given increased attention to issues dealing with the environment. Every year since 1970, on April 22, Earth Day has been promoted as an opportunity for people to reflect on and actively promote awareness of issues threatening the wellbeing of the planet. Terms like global warming, overfishing, species extinction, and water scarcity are commonplace today and the discussions that stem from them are shaping the political and social landscape. Millions of dollars and countless hours of research are spent to monitor these trends, leading some to wonder how long human life can continue if these issues are ignored. There is no doubt that our environment is changing—and not for the better. But perhaps the increased awareness of our global need is missing one very important point. A great deal of focus is being pointed toward the creation, but very little is pointed toward the Creator.
