A successful European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project requires close co-operation between the sending(/supporting) and hosting organisations and the volunteer. VSI has been accredited by the national EU agency in Ireland as an ESC sending organisation and we have many years’ experience of sending volunteers.

The role of an ESC sending organisation
Providing info and support when finding a project --> you can contact us and talk to us over the phone or we can meet with you online via WhatsApp or Zoom to give you more info. Please use the contact details below to arrange this. We can also put you in touch with former ESC volunteers who are happy to talk about their ESC experiences with new volunteers.   

Preparation/pre-departure training --> VSI provides a thorough and comprehensive preparation programme for our ESC volunteers. This includes understanding the ESC programme and your volunteer agreement, understanding the  roles and responsibilities of host, sending and coordinating organisations and the volunteer,  insurance and travel info, intercultural learning and dealing with culture shock.

VSI also offers volunteers a Global Citizenship Education workshop to encourage you to continue your global justice advocacy outside of your project.

Support during the project --> VSI will keep in regular contact with you and your host organisation throughout your  volunteer project, and help you with any issues you face during your project.

Debriefing/evaluation -->  VSI will help you to reflect on your experience and to consider how you can take your learning forward. We also provide guidance regarding further education, training or employment opportunities if requested.

Support Needs

VSI works to include all young people through supporting volunteering for all. The ESC programme is designed to be accessible to all young people and provides financial and other support to enable all young people to participate in the programme.  People who may benefit from extra support include for example people who face discrimination because of their ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation, people who have a disability, are long-term unemployed, early school leavers and many others.
