2024 Delaware Forest Service S-130/S-190 Wildland Firefighter Training
This training is the annual training for new wildland firefighters who wish to participate in the Delaware Forest Service (DFS) Wildland Fire Program. This training is required to obtain certification/qualification as a Firefighter Type II (FFT2, Crewmember) as endorsed by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). There is no cost for this training, and no prior experience is required.

You must attend all training dates, including the field day in order to get credit and a certificate for S-130/S-190. There are three additional required courses in order to be issued a red card from the Delaware Forest Service (DFS). All additional courses must be completed independently, online, prior to the beginning of S-130/S-190. You must bring your certificates to this training in order to be admitted. You can find the full requirements on the 'Position Qualification Requirements' tab on the FFT2 description webpage, here. Follow the links on that page (or the links below) to complete each required online course. You must complete the following three courses and bring your certificates to the first session of S-130/S-190:
If you have already completed either S-130 or S-190 and have a certificate, please contact Sam Topper to discuss your options for partial credit/partial attendance if you wish to be excused from a portion of the training.

You must also take a physical fitness test in order to become re-carded and participate on a crew or engine. This test is known as the Work Capacity Test (WCT) or 'pack test'. The WCT will be held during the field day (Saturday, March 9, 2024). You will be required to pass a screening test questionnaire before you begin the WCT. If you are not able to answer 'no' to all of the questions on the screening form, a letter is required from your primary physician, affirming your fitness to take the exam. Please review the sample screening form on page 5 of this document prior to the WCT, to give yourself time to obtain physician clearance if necessary.
