The Naming Project: Renaming Schizophrenia
Raquelle Mesholam-Gately, Ph.D., Matcheri Keshavan, M.D., Elyn Saks, J.D., Ph.D., Stephen Behnke, J.D., Ph.D., M.Div., the Consumer Advisory Board and associated members of the research team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) are conducting a study about renaming schizophrenia. 1 in 100 people, worldwide, experience a condition called schizophrenia. There is widespread disagreement regarding what should be the appropriate name for this condition. We are requesting your opinion on this matter. If you choose to be in the study, you will complete this survey, which will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. You can skip any survey questions that you don’t want to answer. Even if you start the survey, you are not required to complete it, and we will just look at the questions you responded to. You can stop at any time. The survey is anonymous, and no one will be able to link your answers back to you. Please do not include your name or other information that could be used to identify you in the survey responses. Being in this study is voluntary. Please contact Raquelle Mesholam-Gately, Ph.D. at 617-754-1233 with questions about this study. If you have questions about your rights participating in research or would like to speak with someone independent from the research team, please contact the BIDMC Human Subject Protection Office, (617) 975-8500.
