November 15.Theresa (DeMeyer) Landis established this scholarship endowment fund while serving as Director of Recreational Services at the University of Michigan-Flint. She relocated from Kalamazoo, MI because of her lifelong commitment to the benefits of physical activity and wellness – both a stated focus for students, faculty, staff and the community members at the Recreation Center. She served as a dedicated leader and advocate for student well-being for more than 30 years.
Landis was a three-sport athlete throughout high school and created this scholarship opportunity for UM-Flint Club Sports participants as a tribute to the memory of her parents, Patricia and G. Richard DeMeyer. She attributes her success as a young athlete to the dedication of her parents who both worked full-time, yet made time to drive her to every practice and watch every game. Theresa’s high school athletics positioned her to continue at the collegiate level, and become the first in her family to earn college degrees.
