Request to change a semester letter grade to a "P" (pass)
We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic is having an overwhelming impact on our families and community and we want to extend grace to students during this crisis.  Also, we understand that students within our district have varying levels of support and instructional resources at home.  We are fully aware that the shift to remote learning at home has been a major transition that has impacted instruction and our traditional grading system.  Because of this interruption families may ask for a semester grade change from a letter grade (A, B, C, or D) to a “P” for semester grades only.

Please see frequently asked questions at the bottom of this form for further clarification.

Deadline to request for 2nd semester grades from the 2020-21 school year is Wednesday, September 29th 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a “P” affect my child’s cumulative grade point average?
-No, a “P’ will not help or harm a students overall grade point average.  It will not affect the class rank, however it may affect the student’s percentile in the class.

Will a “P” look bad to college admission counselors and scholarship committee members?
-No! There is a statement on our transcript that explains that these semester grades were earned during the pandemic.  The majority of colleges are offering an S/N option to students at the collegiate level.

Will military recruiters recognize the “P” grades?
-YES!  Typically students entering the military need to be sure that all credits are earned for a high school diploma.

What reason would I not allow my child to receive a “P” instead of a letter grade for a semester class?
-We do not recommend that students who are pursuing athletics at the collegiate level opt for a “P” as a semester grade on the transcript.   The NCAA Clearinghouse treats a grade of “Pass” as the lowest possible passing grade. This would put our students who are interested in collegiate athletics at a disadvantage compared to students coming from districts that recorded numerical grades.

Can a “P” be listed on a college transcript for a CITS course?
-This policy is only for ISD 709 transcripts.  Your students will  need to contact the CITS instructor for any possible exceptions.
