Thank you for your interest in joining SARNAK! We welcome individuals from any background, age, or ability to apply. SARNAK is always looking for new members who are interested in helping sick, lost or injured people in the backcountry. We maintain a team culture that is positive, supportive, and service oriented. There are many ways that you can contribute your time and talents.

Obtain the minimum certifications. These are required at time of application:

ICS 100
ICS 700
CPR/First Aid (minimum level)
Photo for Member ID (Shoulders and above, blank background)
$50 new member fee (includes new member kit if you are voted-in)

Mark your calendar for the pack test and begin to train.

Members must complete the test (moderate or arduous) annually to be eligible to participate in wilderness rescues. The test must be done in-person and make-up dates are not available. SARNAK offers the pack test twice a year - in October and April. The next SARNAK pack test will take place Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Riverside Park, Saranac Lake, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Moderate Pack Test: Walk two miles in 30 minutes while carrying 25 lbs
Arduous Pack Test: Walk three miles in 45 minutes while carrying 45 lbs

Mark your calendar for monthly trainings - you must complete three consecutive trainings to be eligible for membership. After being voted in you must complete 6 per year, and maintain your certifications. Trainings are always held the first Wednesday of the month, rain or shine, 6:00-8:00 pm.
