Brief: In this workshop we'll show you how to setup your own guitar, using hardware store tools!
Guitars function because of a delicate balance of being built light, yet sturdy enough to stand up to the force of tension they're under. It is not unreasonable for a guitar player to
expect their instrument to play well year round, but it IS unreasonable to
expect that it will, without any effort. Like changing the strings on their
guitar, a guitar player will do well to know how to conduct basic adjustments
they can make to their instruments, seasonally, from the comfort of their
homes, with tools easily found at the hardware store.
Guelph
Guitar Repair’s Guitar Setup Workshop
will give guitar players the experience of conducting guitar analysis and
adjustments, with supervision. They will be introduced to common setup terms
like ‘action’ and ‘relief’, and learn to identify the parts of a guitar that
they can adjust to make impacts on those elements. Students will be introduced
to common tools they can buy from the local hardware store, and we will discuss
specialty tools available from luthier suppliers, for specific tasks. Workshop
attendees will feel more confident to adjust any of their instruments on their
own, after taking this course.
We will
cover a lot of material that will be applicable to many different guitars, but
will limit the scope to focus this workshop on electric guitars.
The cost of
this course is $113 ($100 +HST), and DIYode members will receive a $25 discount (refund issued upon confirmation of their DIYode membership).
