Wellington Community Hosts - expression of interest

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Wellington Community Host. Please answer a few short questions below to help us understand your background and interest in this opportunity a little better. Follow-up interviews will be conducted via google hangout with the aim to making a decision to appoint 2-3 volunteers by mid-May.

A BIT ABOUT US
The CX Collective is NZ’s fasted growing industry network with close to 2000 members in Auckland and Wellington who are working in or are interested in design and related disciplines (CX, Innovation, Service Design, EX, UX, product, agile, research…). As a diverse community, we come from many different backgrounds but are aligned on our shared purpose - to help organisations shift focus from profit to people.
 
Every month we get together at a different location to learn about aspects of design and complementary disciplines. This happens in variety of ways, anything from a case study, to a workshop or a panel discussion. To date, we have been hosted by a diverse range of organisations including Auckland Council, IBM and AMP.

WHAT IT'S LIKE WORKING WITH US
Everybody in the volunteer team has a full-time job and is doing this on top of existing commitments. We think big but act small, frequent and local. We are open to trying new things and failing fast. We have an overall strategic vision that firmly guides our work but are happy to iterate the tactics. We’re two years in - this is still very much a ‘learning on the go experience’ but hugely satisfying to pull off.

We are establishing an industry in NZ, streamlining and pushing practice by creating learning opportunities and helping our members create positive impact for their organisation - and by extension for their organisations’ customers.

ROLE PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to activate the Wellington community through a high quality, engaging events programme that promotes cross-pollination of ideas and knowledge across the wider community. At each event we want to connect, play and learn.
 
The Wellington team would be responsible for:
Securing monthly event hosts, February - November who cover venue, content and catering
Working closely with event hosts to curate and focus content, event framing and delivery on the night
Admin and coordination around events
Event promotion via social media, slack, newsletters
Growing the local community
Contribution to newsletters through content, ideas, event photos
Live-stream of events
Participation in organiser team discussion via google hangout

WHAT THIS ROLE MEANS TO US
The Auckland community has grown from a chat over coffee to a movement of people who are passionate about their practice and making tangible, positive impact to people’s lives. The Wellington Community Hosts are an integral part of growing the community outside of Auckland, someone we look to for local insights and different perspectives to create relevant and meaningful local opportunities to connect, play and learn.  

WHAT YOU'LL GET OUT OF IT
You’ll be part of our core membership base and get to build a community of like-minded individuals in your area. As community host you’ll join the CXC tribe in a position where you can make real impact for the NZ design community, push practice and influence the vision for our industry. Our team and work is widely recognised across Auckland - with your help, we are trying to do the same in Wellington.

WHAT'S NEEDED TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE
There is a level of flexibility and ‘thinking on your feet’ required to make this role work for you and for us. Sponsors pull out, speakers get sick, family emergencies happen but the programme needs to happen. As the host, you will be the go-to person in your local community for people who are trying to move into the industry, who are looking for connections or advise. Within reason, we are expecting you to be generous with your time in nurturing and connecting members of the Collective as appropriate to reinforce a sense of belonging and community.
