Barcode Long Island Scholarship Eligibility
The Barcode Long Island (BLI) program is providing scholarships to support high school student DNA barcoding research in Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, and Kings counties.

Schools may be eligible to participate via scholarship if they meet certain criteria regarding a percentage of high school (grades 9-12) student enrollment from underprivileged communities or from underrepresented minorities in STEM (defined by the National Science Foundation as Black or African Americans, American Indian or Native Alaskan, Hispanic or Latino, and Native Pacific Islander). BLI will primarily consider the percentage of students enrolled in the free or reduced-price school lunch program. For eligible schools, BLI will either waive 50% of the cost of materials and sequencing for up to three teams (of 2-4 students each) per mentor, or cover all costs for the same number of teams per mentor. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis and may depend in part on the number of applications received. Prior ability to bring projects to completion may also factor into BLI staff decisions.

Please complete the application below to be considered for a scholarship. If multiple mentors from the same school intend to participate, each mentor should complete a separate form.

Applications are due by Friday, October 13, 2023.
