LEVEL I (3-6) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Registration - Stella Maris Family of Parishes
PLEASE READ BEFORE PROCEEDING:
Level I is designed specifically for children aged 3-6.

  • *To acclimate to the Atrium, the first 3 weeks we will only meet for 1 hour. The following 2 weeks will meet for 1.5 hours. The remaining weeks of the year we plan to meet for 2 hour sessions. We hope to extend this to a 2 hour session permanently.*
  • The atrium will be located in the undercroft of St Peter's Parish. We currently only have one catechist (teacher) but if you would like to volunteer to assist or be formally trained, please email cgs.stellamaris@gmail.com.
  • For the availability of each parish, we will meet one morning per week, Wednesdays 10-12pm. A second meeting time may begin if enough people are interested!
  • Fees for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd this year have been provided for and waived.
  • If you would like to have your child attend, but they don’t exactly meet the 3-6 age requirements they may still be able to attend based on availability. Please contact us at cgs.stellamaris@gmail.com to learn more. We hope to offer more levels in future years, age 18 mon - 12 years.
  • Every student will attend an individual orientation (parent and child to attend) before the beginning of class. This is crucial to the beginning of the year for this age group. They want and need to feel acclimated/"normalized" in the Atrium if they are to feel at home and safe in this environment. We want to reassure each child this space is for them.
  • The Atrium does indeed count as your child's Religious Education for the year. However, children in second grade (6-7yr) will also be required to complete the proper First Communion Prep Programs.

CGS BEGIN on the Feast of Stella Maris, 9.27.2023. Full schedule to be emailed upon registration.

Clear selection
We encourage important people in your child's life to observe life in the Atrium. If parents or family members would like to observe in the atrium more than once they must complete the online Safe Parish training.
Parish Code: 69544-RRF2, Select: "St Peter-New Richmond" > "Volunteer" > "Religious Education-Volunteer" - To complete the Background Check please email your parish secretary for a "Token"
Child-Photo Authorization Form: On the first day of class you will sign a hard copy to either accept or deny the usage of photos taken of your child during CGS for social media, website, or ministry advertisement. This is purely your own preference. This will not in any way hinder your child's participation in the Atrium. *

We realize some of the youngest children attending may be in diapers or not yet able to fully use the restroom independently. In this case, we must ask that a parent or family member remain on site during your child's time in the atrium.

We have a quiet space nearby open to all parents who wish to stay during atrium. All parents and older children are welcome to read or work in one of these spaces during atrium. We encourage parents to use their children's time in the atrium as their own time for prayer whenever possible.

In order to maintain a retreat-like atmosphere in the Atrium, we request that the participants wear socks or slippers instead of shoes. This is grounding for the children and allows them to feel at home instead of "on the go." Maria Montessori and Gianna Gobbi (a founder of CGS) sought to create a home-like environment to live and be with God.  *
