HMGT/RPTS Internship Approval Form 
Complete this form immediately after accepting a position which you will use for your internship credits. However, if you're uncertain about the eligibility of a position for RPTS 484 credit, discuss it with the Internship Coordinator before accepting the position and submitting this form. The form is required before you can begin counting hours toward the required hours for the internship. Supervisor name and e-mail are used to request mid-term and final performance evaluations. Please email the RPTS Internship Coordinator, Dr. Heather Eden at heather.eden@tamu.edu if you have any questions. Approval usually comes via email within 2 business days.  If you do not have a response in that time frame, please email Dr. Eden.

Keep in mind that you cannot accrue more than 60 work hours per week toward your internship. Not all positions qualify for internships.  Positions must be related to hospitality, hotel management, recreation, recreational youth programs, events, tourism, travel and/or parks, and provide opportunities for you to apply the concepts you have learned through HMGT/RPTS coursework.  Internships can be paid or unpaid.  You cannot be related to your supervisor at the organization with which you plan to work.  By filling out this form, you agree to comply with these rules.

RPTS majors need 6 credits of RPTS 484 in their degree plan. Students may register for all 6 credits during the one semester or divide the credits into two semesters. It is permissible to register for zero credits of RPTS 484 for Canvas access if your internship extends into a semester in which you do not want/need to pay for credits. All RPTS majors must register, pay for, and pass 6 credits of RPTS 484 to complete their degrees.

HMGT majors need 2 credits of 384 with 200 hours of work and 3 credits of 484 with 300 hours of work.

For RPTS 484-At least 15 credit hours of RPTS coursework, RPTS311 or HMGT 211, RPTS or HMGT 340, RPTS or HMGT 281 or 481, Overall GPA of 2.0 or higher, GPA of 2.25 or higher in RPTS/HMGT coursework.

How many credits of additional classes do you intend to take during your internship semester(s)? If you plan to gain all  hours during a summer, you are advised to avoid taking other classes. During fall and spring semesters, one or two additional classes may be manageable, depending upon the hours and schedule of your internship. If you spread the 400 hours over 2 semesters, just be careful not to take on too much.
