BWT Celebrating a Decade of Breakthroughs - AUDITION FORM - Deadline: Sunday, June 19
Breakthrough Workshop Theatre is excited to announce a trio of projects to be presented in July, August & September 2022 that will celebrate a decade of breakthroughs as BWT's milestone 10th Anniversary Season comes to a conclusion. All casting information is detailed below.

Since BWT was founded in 2013, we have provided 978 artistic opportunities to 206 different Breakthrough Artists over 65 projects.  With limited resources during this unprecedented time, we know that we will not be able to offer participation to everyone interested in these projects, but we will do our very best to facilitate as many breakthroughs as possible for as many artists as possible.  

As with all BWT projects, we encourage and celebrate a wide range of artists of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. If you are interested in being considered, please read through this form carefully and fill it out completely NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, JUNE 19TH.

GENERAL NOTES ABOUT THE PROJECTS
- Two projects listed below are IN-PERSON (with all rehearsals/performances taking place in San Diego), and one project is VIRTUAL (meaning it can feature artists based anywhere).
- All Breakthrough Artists in 2022 will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (artists will be rehearsing and performing without masks).
- There is NO FEE for artists to participate OR audiences to watch these educational opportunities.
- Each project has a different rehearsal schedule, so look over each description below carefully as you determine which project(s) would work best for you.
"THE BWT PRIDE HONORS 2022"  [IN-PERSON]
July 31, 2022 at the Coronado Public Library

Dates: July 3, 2022 (Virtual Info Meeting on Sunday from 9am to 9:30am), July 29 & 30, 2022 (Rehearsals Friday from 6pm to 9pm & Saturday from 9am to 3pm), July 31 from 12pm to 5pm (Performance at 2:30pm)

CASTING NOTES
— Seeking 10 to 15 artists of any gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability status
— This performance is very education-focused and the spotlights/tributes for each of the LGBTQ+ icons will be created in collaboration with the artists following casting. While the honorees have been selected, the options for the show are wide open, and each artist will be asked to research, and contribute ideas to the presentation.

SYNOPSIS
Breakthrough Workshop Theatre will celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride with THE BWT PRIDE HONORS 2022. In recognition of their indelible impact on the community, 10 honorees - including 7 individuals, 2 couples, and 1 ally - will be highlighted through an educational presentation full of music, theatre, spoken word, poetry, stories, and history you never learned in school.  Presented by an ensemble of Breakthrough Artists, this one-time only performance presented at the Coronado Public Library on July 31st (the final day of San Diego’s Pride Month), will not only commemorate many champions from our past, but also the barriers they broke through in order to ensure our future. The inaugural class of BWT Pride Honorees include James Baldwin, Pete & Chasten Buttigieg, Judy Garland, Marsha P. Johnson, Phyllis Lyon & Del Martin, Harvey Milk, Sylvia Rivera, Mj Rodriguez, Edie Windsor and Pedro Zamora.

"THE BWT VIRTUAL VARIETY HOUR 2022"  [VIRTUAL]
Premiering August 13, 2022 via YouTube (@breakthroughworkshop)

Dates: Once cast, you will have a 30-minute virtual meeting with the BWT Team based on your availability, and will be given your assignment for the show no later than Wednesday, July 13th. You will need to submit your final files to BWT no later than Wednesday, August 3rd. The show will go through post-production and will premiere via YouTube on Saturday, August 13th.

CASTING NOTES

— Since this project is virtual, it is open to all artists, regardless of where they are based
— This performance will be created in collaboration with the artists following casting. The term "Variety Hour" is vague on purpose and we are excited to see what ideas are brought to us by the artists.

SYNOPSIS
Breakthrough Workshop Theatre will continue its mission of providing breakthroughs for as many artists as possible through THE BWT VIRTUAL VARIETY HOUR 2022. Led by 33-time Breakthrough Artist & “Breakthrough Icon” Terri Bratcher, this special video presentation will feature not only artists from San Diego, but also highlight many from all around the country. Available to view for free from the comfort of your home via YouTube starting August 12th, this will be the only virtual project in 2022.  It will be the perfect opportunity for everyone to celebrate BWT’s 10th Anniversary Season through music, theatre and stories of the Breakthrough Artists who have inspired our work for a decade.

"THE BREAKTHROUGH REVUE 2022" [IN-PERSON]
September 17, 2022 at the Clark Cabaret at Diversionary Theatre

Dates: 30-minute coaching session with Directors & 30-minute coaching session with Music Director TBD mid-August to early-September, based on availability. Tuesday, September 13th from 6pm to 8pm (group rehearsal) & Saturday, September 17th from 6pm to 10pm (performance at 8pm).

SYNOPSIS
Breakthrough Workshop Theatre will return to live musical performance for the first time in over two years with THE BREAKTHROUGH REVUE 2022. In celebration of BWT’s milestone 10th Anniversary Season, an ensemble of dynamic Breakthrough Artists will grace the stage to perform an exciting lineup of eclectic songs highlighting the best of musical theatre. Presented at the new and beautiful Clark Cabaret at Diversionary Theatre, this one-night only performance on September 17th will not only feature the talents and hearts of our vocalists, but it will also showcase inspiring stories from many artists who have attempted and achieved breakthroughs with BWT throughout our first decade.

Breakthrough Workshop Theatre is not a traditional theatre company.  We are an education-focused nonprofit that uses projects such as staged readings and musical concerts to facilitate individualized artistic and/or personal "breakthroughs," established by our artists of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels at the beginning of each process.  We are continuously pushing our artists to challenge themselves and approach these vulnerable and inspiring processes with an open mind and heart, so think of that as you answer the last question.
