JDI x The Young Diplomat: Negotiation Master Class With Hans van den Berg

Who is Hans van den Berg? As an experienced trainer, Hans van den Berg bridges the gap between theory and practice in the field of negotiation. He trained Israeli and Palestinian Young Professionals in how to conduct a constructive dialogue, developed seminars and skills training on negotiation for various universities and organises an annual summer school and winter seminar on international negotiation for young professionals from all over the world.


Currently Hans is working at the Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) where he works on projects on strengthening the rule of law, countering terrorism and diplomacy in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa. As Founder and Director of the Young Diplomat he teaches on (international) negotiation and diplomacy, specifically Eastern Europe and its relation with Russia at Oxford University, Leiden University, the Armenian Diplomatic Academy, the College of Europe, and other diplomatic academies and institutions. He has specialised in negotiating between private and public institutions, the strategic and non-verbal aspects  of negotiation. Previously, Hans was chairman of the University Council and lecturer at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Hans draws on a lot of experience, so that he can always provide a relevant anecdote. Simulations are an essential part of his training with the aim of applying, practicing and developing skills.
