The NJC Health Equity Leadership & Mentorship Program
Thank you for your interest in our pilot educational program to promote health equity leadership training, mentorship, and career development. In alignment with our mission, we aim to "de-silo" healthcare education, leadership training, and career development in neonatal health equity. Thus, we are seeking a diverse group of interdisciplinary volunteers to serve as mentors (both career and/or research), group facilitators, and/or content experts. This includes but not limited neonatologists , NPM fellows, neonatal NPs, PAs, neonatal nurses, former NICU parents/family advocates, and community partners/advocates. We are also seeking individuals that work in different hospital settings including academic/university-based, community, etc and those who are from underrepresented and/or marginalized groups as well as allies. For more information regarding expectations & duties for each role, see below.  

Expectations/Duties for Mentors, Facilitators, and/or Content Expert: 

Mentors: We are seeking volunteers who can serve as individual career and/or scholarly mentors for our pilot cohort of participants. Responsibilities would include meeting with your mentee at least quarterly and providing career development guidance and/or scholarship support within their area of interest (i.e., basic or clinical research, QI, advocacy/policy, medical education, clinical care).

Facilitators: We are seeking volunteers who can serve as group facilitators for the monthly virtual sessions with our initial cohort. Responsibilities would include helping to guide/facilitate a minimum of 2 virtual learning sessions and 1 case-based discussion/simulation alongside the learner/trainee who will primarily leading the learning activity, talk, or discussion. Timing of virtual sessions TBD.

Content Experts: We are seeking volunteers who can serve as an invited guest speakers  OR provide a pre-recorded talk for at least one of our monthly virtual learning talks/discussions. We view expertise as a broad and inclusive concept that embraces one's interest, knowledge, and comfort in area(s) within the sector of neonatal health equity. So even if you don't consider yourself an "expert" but can contribute in a meaningful way, please consider applying for this role.  Examples of areas of expertise include but are not limited to the following: identifying and mitigating unconscious bias, micro-aggression and up-stander training, promoting braves spaces and collaborative dialogue, narrative medicine, antiracism and anti-oppression practices in the NICU, neonatal health disparities, equity-centered leadership, social/political/economical determinants of health and impact on neonatal care, community and parental engagement, advocacy & health policy, equity-focused QI, equity-centered research, and inclusive practices and curricula in neonatal healthcare education.
