Downtown Dharma Mission Backstory: How we got here

After an open call for participants to help create a mission, >15 members of the community co-created the statements below over the course of November and early December. If you're curious, you can learn more about the process for arriving at these statements here. (Note: The two missions start the same and end differently. This is a natural result of the co-creation process we used to create them.)

Downtown Dharma Mission: Option 1

We are a meditation community, rooted in Buddhism and open to wisdom from across traditions, offering a safe haven for curious minds and loving hearts in downtown DC. We are community-driven and volunteer-led, supporting each other through life's challenges with kindness and friendship. Modeling a generous, inclusive alternative to intolerance and isolation in our society, we foster intimacy with all of life, healing ourselves and the larger world.

Thank you for your time and investment in helping us select a mission that reflects our Downtown Dharma Sangha. We plan to synthesize results from this survey, incorporate feedback, and roll out the final mission with the larger Sangha in early 2024.
