I understand that Summer Practices will begin July 6th at 8am and will be held through the summer on Monday/Tuesday/Thursday at Faulkner Park by the tennis courts.  Towards the last 2-3 weeks we may move practice to a later time to accommodate closer to the conditions that will occur after school. *
I understand that after school practice will start at 4pm after school. We are currently looking to have practice Monday/Tuesday/Thur (meets are typically Saturday). This is subject to change. *
I understand that I will need to rearrange my personal life and work schedule to attend practices AND I know and understand that the only reason to miss summer practice is if I am on vacation with family. I know that I must have a parent contact the Head Coach with a note, call, or text message.   *
I understand that Coach Guerrero will have soccer during the school's athletic period and Coach Ritter will have cross country & track. In XC/Track we will be lifting weights, ancillary strength training, and some speed development. *
I understand that I will be removed from the team for having unexcused missed practices. *
I understand that if I need to see the trainer that I will report to the start of practice first and at the start of the athletic period before seeing the Athletic Trainer.   *
I understand that there will be grade checks at certain points during the season and UIL has a rule about no passing and no playing (racing). *
I understand that the Coaches will assign physical punishment for unexcused missed practices (check with Head Coach first if you are unsure), misbehavior on or off campus, in the classroom or outside of the classroom, that can include, but not limited to in the form of bear crawls, towels pushups, burpees, frog jumps, pushups, lunges with plated weights, etc.   *
I understand if I need tutorials that I MUST go BEFORE School on the days we have practice.   *
I understand that Team Expectations outlined here below that the coaches place on me. Cumberland Academy Cross Country Team ExpectationsTeam members uphold a rich tradition of honorable behavior. Wherever they are, they are part of an elite team that proudly represents the best this school has to offer. Their honesty and good conduct are the most important contributions they make to the team. This pertains to practice, in school, and in some cases outside of school. Your behavior reflects our team. We expect only clean language and sportsmanlike conduct to others. If there is trouble in school the below disciplinary actions will also be enforced. There is no drug, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping policy. Any of these result in automatic dismissal. On or off campus. Team members place academics as a number one priority. You should make all effort to attend A.M. (morning) tutorials  and be on top of your school work. You should never be late with your school work. Team members should make effective use of practice. You should have arrived well before the practice starts and have your shoes, clothes, and hydration ready to go. Our time is valuable. Attendance is required for all practices. All summer practices are required unless you are out of town or under a medical circumstance. Then a parent note is required.  During the school year all practices are required unless of emergency. You should make other arrangements such as work, haircuts, drivers ed, shopping, picking up siblings, etc. If you’re not sure it’s better to ask.  If you need to see the trainer you will report to practice first. This includes the athletic period and after school.  It will count as an absent if you do not. Even if we know you are with the athletic trainer. All shirts stay on when we are on campus. As a valued team member you will come to practice ready to work at the prescribed effort by the coaches with a positive attitude with laser focus.  HAVE FUN and bring a great attitude! We are looking forward to an exciting season with you all. Disciplinary Actions per offense for any violations above or the student handbook or that is not perceived as an upstanding character of a Cumberland Knight.  Warning (the below will be reprimanded for bad habits that do not get corrected)  A type of physical punishment the team member will not like. May include bear crawls, towel pushes, pushups, lunges with plated weights overheadSuspension from a meet(s)  (ISS at school is automatic suspension from a meet for the week. OSS will be 3 meets) Dismissal from team  Other - at the coaches discretion for an alternative if needed.   *
I understand that I must have a physical BEFORE school and preferably before Summer practice. *
I understand that I must bring a minimum of two fluid bottles to practice with 1 water, 1 electrolyte beverages due to the outdoor nature in East Texas. *
I understand I need at minimum a basic sports watch and running shoes, every 300-500 miles, and cross country spikes for racing and some in practice. *
I understand the top 5 to 7 runners make Varsity. This may change week to week. At the District Championship the top 3 teams and top 10 individuals advance to the Region Championships. From the Region Championships the top 4 teams and top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team make the State Championships. *
I understand that with the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic that those qualifying conditions could change, practice and racing conditions can change at any time.   *
I understand that I am to listen to the coaches, bring a positive energy and attitude  regardless how I am feeling and have a strong commitment, to yourself, the team, and coaches.  We want an excitement to spread but realize negative energy spreads much faster like a disease. *
I would like to join cross country but I do NOT understand what I am in for and would like a call from the Head Coach.
