Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Choralfest was unfortunately cancelled in 2020 and 2021. For 2022, we have developed a new framework to allow for flexible participation, including one spot in each pod for VIRTUAL participation.

Choir Alberta acknowledges the difficulty of planning ahead during these challenging times, so we are inviting choirs to pre-register through this form, with payment to be completed later in the year. This pre-registration form is non-binding, and we will also be offering a flexible refund policy for this festival in the event that your choir needs to withdraw (see the Refund Policy section below).

If you have deferred registration fees from Choralfest 2020, but will not able to register in this year's festival, do NOT complete this form. You may request a refund by contacting the Choir Alberta office at info@choiralberta.ca

Choralfest 2022 will be a hybrid festival, structured in the same “pod” model as previous years. Three choirs will participate in each pod, and one of the choirs can participate remotely.

Each pod will contain the following components:

1. PERFORMANCE – Choirs will perform a set of up to 10 minutes of music. For choirs participating virtually, they can choose to present a recording or virtual choir project.
2. LISTENING – Each choir will be asked to listen during the other performances in the pod.
3. WORKSHOP – Choirs will receive a private 30-minute workshop from one of the festival evaluators.

Each participating choir will receive feedback from all three evaluators, as well as a certificate of participation and a full repertoire list from the festival.

Choirs will need to provide their own equipment to participate virtually in Choralfest 2022.

You will need the following:
- Stable high-speed internet (wired, if possible)
- Laptop/computer
- High-quality microphone
- High-quality camera
- Projector + screen (to see the other choirs & clinicians)
- Powered speakers (to hear the other choirs & clinicians)

Note that Choir Alberta is not able to offer technical support.

Choralfest 2022 will take place 15-19 March 2022. Generally, 3-4 pods will be scheduled each day, with 3 choirs participating in each pod.

Scheduling preference will be given to choirs which deferred their registration fees from Choralfest 2020, then on a first come, first served basis.

Registration fees for Choralfest 2022 will remain the same:
- $425 for choirs of 1-40 singers
- $475 for choirs of 41+ singers

There are many unforeseen challenges that can arise during this pandemic - for example, the sudden illness of a conductor or accompanist, cancellation of classes, venue closures, and more.

In recognition of this situation, Choir Alberta will allow registered choirs to receive a full refund of their Choralfest 2022 fee in the event that they are unable to participate due to extenuating circumstances resulting from COVID-19.
