Dear Community Partner,

In conjunction with the Sugarloaf Elementary School PTA, we are looking for volunteers to support our  end of the year celebration, The 2nd Annual Blue Jay Festival, to be held Friday, May 17, 2024, from 5pm to 8 pm at Sugarloaf Elementary School’s field in Urbana, Maryland. The Blue Jay Festival provides an evening of hands-on fun and activities for children and families. Since attendance at the festival is typically around 500-700 individuals, participation is an excellent opportunity to present your business or program to a large group of parents.

There will be a large amount of Community Partners using 10' x 10' spaces on either grass or asphalt to do various activities, carnival style contests, inflatable obstacle courses, food vendors, a pie eating contest and much more!  Volunteers should be prepared to serve approximately 500-700 children, ages 5 to 11 years and their parents.  Please See clips from our first Blue Jay Festival in a video here!!!

For those looking for community service hours, actively participating in this event will give you five (5) hours of community service credit.  There are several different areas where we need both adult and student volunteers:

Parking Detail (Support attendees, Community Partners & Food Vendors parking on site)
Community Partner Detail (Support Food Vendors / Community Partners throughout event)
Welcome Table Detail (Greet/support attendees, /Distribute Raffle Tickets/Get PTA Sign-up)
Relief Access Detail (Support attendees who need water/restroom/first aid access)
Carnival Detail (Support attendees entering, exiting & playing games of chance)
Obstacle Detail (Support attendees entering, exiting & playing on inflatable obstacles)
Incentive Detail (Support attendees playing live games & raffle prizes during festival)
Mascot Detail (Support attendees by wearing the Blue Jay Mascot costume & supporting mascot)
Media Detail (Support festival via event photography, video recording & social media content)

The committee welcomes interest from all types of volunteers and asks that those volunteers respect the different beliefs and values of the families in our community. The committee reserves the right to deny application to activities deemed unsafe or inappropriate in any manner.

There will be a virtual orientation meeting for all volunteers to attend prior to the event, email invitations will be sent once registration closes.

All registration forms are due by March 22, 2024. We will provide notification of assigned activities/location prior to the festival.
