Expectations
  • Volunteering at the library is a privilege and service to the community. We expect everyone to take this experience seriously and to treat others with respect.
  • Volunteers are expected to show up on time for the shifts they select and to be present for the entire shift.
  • Volunteers must contact us if they are going to be late or absent from a shift. They may call, email, or delete their shift off of Sign-Up Genius.
There is a 3 strike rule. Strikes are issued for either displaying behavioral problems such as leaving a mess behind, acting rude to a patron, volunteer, or staff AND/OR for missing shifts with no email or phone call. If one reaches 3 strikes, then they have proven they are not yet mature enough to handle the responsibility and will not be allowed to volunteer for a 6-month period.

Types of Shifts
You have the opportunity to select the kinds of shifts you want to work this summer. Select the days and times that best fit your schedule as well as the type of shift. We have three different types of shifts:

General Task: Work alone on a project, prepare materials for a future program, and help maintain library spaces

Program Helper: Help a librarian during a program at the library

Programming Team: Work closer with young patrons through a variety of programs, see next page for information
