73rd World Health Assembly 2020: Canadian Youth Consultation
Hi!

My name is Yipeng Ge, the Canadian youth delegate to the 73rd World Health Assembly (WHA). I will be joining the rest of the Canadian delegation, consisting of a civil society representative, and leaders and staff members from the Office of International Affairs for the Health Portfolio (Public Health Agency of Canada), Global Affairs Canada, and Health Canada. The WHA is the annual gathering of the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization. It is attended by delegations from 194 Member States as well as recognized international NGOs and other partners. The 73rd WHA will be held from 17th to 21st May 2020, in Geneva, Switzerland.

As the Canadian youth delegate, it is my vision to inspire and evoke interest in global and international public health diplomacy, policy, and programming.

I hope to provide my fellow youth, students, peers, and colleagues insight into the purpose and role of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) including the organizations’ agenda-setting meetings being the WHA and the Pan American Health Organization Directing Council (PAHO DC). As well as, highlight the value and importance of engaging in global health issues, including a better understanding of Canada’s role and involvements.

I hope to effectively and compassionately represent Canadian youth and the issues in global health that matter most to them. Thus, it is with this vision and these goals, that I would like to learn more about your interests and ideas on global and international public health issues.
