The president of SCEC holds a position of responsibility. The president must be enthusiastic and optimistic about the field of special education as well as life in general. The president must be dedicated and determined to plan and carry through with a program of regular SCEC activity. The president will:

 Provide leadership and direction to the club.
 Understand and adhere to BYU polices relative to clubs on campus
 Establish ongoing SCEC officer meetings
 Preside at SCEC meetings and oversees activities.
 Establish short and long range objectives and goals for SCEC
 Structure the organization to ensure continuity of leadership by providing opportunities for new leaders to develop and to be mentored
 Represent SCEC and its alumni in the region by planning programs and publicity campaigns that support the Special Education Department at BYU and build pride among BYU Special Education alumni
 Initiate and maintain BYU SCEC presence in Utah CEC meetings
 Build special educators in the region by planning activities that appeal to a wide spectrum of interest (including both Mild/Moderate and Severe interests)
 Have overall financial responsibility for the SCEC
 Approve all SCEC communications
 Maintain regular contact with other SCEC officers
 Maintain regular contact with BYU SCEC Faculty Advisors
 Ensure the completion of the SCEC annual report each year and submits it to the BYU SCEC Faculty Advisors by the stated deadline (including the annual history from the SCEC History Chair and the annual financial report from the SCEC Treasurer).
 Work to identify the SCEC president elect by January.
 Provide consultation with new SCEC president.
